The Youth Ballet
Under the Direction of Susan Perlis

The BRBT Youth Ballet is comprised of a select group of dancers, ages 10 to 14, who tour each summer with a children's version of a classical ballet. City-wide auditions are held each April. The chosen dancers spend approximately two months in rehearsal and then begin the highly regarded summer tour. The Youth Ballet also joins in other BRBT performances throughout the year.
|
The Youth Ballet Summer Tour gives approximately 30 free-of-charge performances at area libraries, youth camps, retirement centers and nursing homes in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas each year.
|
This annual project is an example of the very essence of BRBT's mission statement of dedication to the advancement of dance in the Baton Rouge community. The Youth Ballet Summer Tour accomplishes two very important goals of BRBT's community outreach programming. First, this tour gives BRBT's young dancers the opportunity to perform their chosen art form. Secondly, the Youth Ballet performs in settings where many of the audience members have little or no chance to attend a live performance of any sort (especially ballet) due to physical or socio-economic limitations.
