BRBT's Youth Ballet Announces 2008 Summer Tour

Graduation Ball

The Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s Youth Ballet announces its summer tour of Graduation Ball, a comedic ballet directed by Susan Perlis. The 30-performance tour will take the company to area libraries, day camps and senior citizen centers from June 7 to June 20. All library performances are free and open to the public (see below).

Graduation Ball is a light-hearted comic ballet set to the music of Johann Strauss, inspired by a piece by David Lichine. At a graduation dance, both the young ladies from a fashionable Viennese academy and the young men from the neighboring military school must work to overcome their mutual shyness while keeping an eye on the budding romance between the girls’ headmistress and the boys’ commanding officer. The performance is approximately 45 minutes in length.

BRBT’s Youth Ballet is made up of more than fifty serious ballet students ages 10-14. Each summer the Youth Ballet tours the Greater Baton Rouge area, performing for more than 4,000 people.

The Youth Ballet Summer Tour is part of the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s community outreach programming, sponsored in part by grants from the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and the Louisiana Division of the Arts. BRBT is also a recipient organization of the Community Fund for the Arts and an honor company in Southwest Regional Dance America.
